Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Services

Many of the services available at the Bedford County CareerLink are provided under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) - a federally funded program that assists job seekers to find and maintain satisfactory employment. WIA Career Planners help individuals to develop a job search strategy to develop and reach their employment goals. In some cases, educational counseling and funding for post-secondary training are available.

WIA One-Stop Workforce Centers are open to any job seeker and are located throughout Pennsylvania. WIA Services in Bedford County are funded by the Southern Alleghenies Planning and Development Commission (opens in new window) and the Southern Alleghenies Workforce Investment Board (opens in a new window).

Services for Professionals

CareerLink is equipped to handle the special needs of managers, technical professionals and others who are looking for suitable positions. Access to job leads, and resources including labor market information, workshops, and career planning services are available.

Veterans' Services

Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives offer services to help veterans transfer valuable military experience and skills into civilian jobs. Special emphasis is placed on helping disabled veterans and those leaving the military. Job search assistance and training information is available. Referrals to other government and community services and resources are provided for veterans and their families.

CareerLink provides a wide array of services to both In-school and Out-of-School Youth ages 14 to 21 years old:

Adult Education: Literacy & GED Preparation

CareerLink offers classes that help individuals prepare for the General Educational Development (GED) (definition: opens in a new window) test battery. Adult Basic Education (ABE) (definition: opens in a new window) classes are available and are designed to provide new skills and abilities necessary to obtain and retain employment.

Occupational Rehabilitation

CareerLink serves as an access point for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) (opens in a new window). The OVR helps disabled Pennsylvanians pursue, obtain, and retain employment.
